Parts 3 & 4 "A Child's Xmas"

December 17, 2012

Wow, only eight more days until Christmas, and fifteen more days until 2013.  Are you ready?  This year Santa has to watch his weight, so be sure to leave out non-fat milk and sugar/calorie free cookies for him on Christmas Eve.  Is there such a thing as calorie free cookies?  Hmmm, I'll have to look into this.  These would be great for snacks.

Mrs. has been extremely crabby and not very nice lately.  It makes for an unpleasant night at work.  If I didn't need to work, I might have quit last night.  I try to understand her dementia and make allowances for her age, but I really don't think there is a valid excuse for being nasty to people.

Some good news..... I got an email from Su last night.  She is home from the hospital, and will be posting on her blog sometime today.  Yeahhhhhh!   Su, it's good to have you back.  I've missed you!

This morning I am posting Parts 3 & 4 of "A Child's Xmas".   Su's parts will go up later in the week when she has a chance to get caught up.  Here's my preview and your download links.

Yesterday, I went shopping at Walmart.  Do you remember all their TV ads that say " We match anyone's prices.  Our prices can't be beat!  Bring us your  receipt and we'll match their price."  Well, that's a false statement.  According to the store supervisor at the Walmart nearest to me,  those ads don't apply to all Walmart stores.  Unfortunately they don't tell you which stores they do pertain to.

I brought them a receipt from BJ's, and they said they could not match the price.  Even if they could, they could not do it from a receipt.  Somehow, this feels to me like false advertising.  If Sam Walton could, he would roll over in his grave.  His wonderful stores have been going steadily downhill.

They no longer have family values, their stores are badly understaffed, the quality of their products is not as good as it used to be, and employees are no longer treated with respect.  The almighty dollar is the only thing that is important to Corporate Walmart today.  This is sad.

Before I go off on another tangent, I will take my leave here.  Pretty soon it will be time to pack up my things and go home.  It's been a long night.  So, till tomorrow, Y'all have a wonderful day.

Hugs, Edna B.

Dementia is a cruel condition both on the person with it and on the people who have to deal with it. I can only imagine how hard it is for you. I admire that you are able to walk away and take it out on Walmart :) I agree, by the way, Walmart is not a good store and false advertising means nothing to them. Remember when they used to advertise that all of their goods were "Made in America"? Ya Right ... I have never found anything that didn't say "Made in China" in years. Another sell out and this time at the expense of American Businesses and the Chinese labor force that gets paid slave wages for long hours of work. We live in a scarey world Edna, and the biggest frustration is that I feel like there is nothing I can do to change it.

So on a lighter note, I had a great time in Long Grove with my friend yesterday. We ate breakfast with Santa. I told Santa that I was personally acquainted with "Santa Dog" and he LOL. It was fun to watch all the kids react to Santa ... some came with their lists while others crawled up Mommy's leg trying to get away. They will learn soon enough that Santa is the bearer of gifts and that will quell their fears :)

I am off to another lunch today ... I am going to be as big as a horse when this Holiday passes. I love that I am seeing so many of my friends. Most of them are still working so it is hard to get together on a regular basis ... Just one more thing Holidays are good for.

Well, have a few things to do and then I am off again ... still haven't finished my wrapping, ugh. Help me, Help me ... I'm drawning :(

You have a restful day, Edna ...

Good Monday Morning Miss Edna! sorry you've had a crabby demented person to care for...it surely takes a LOT of PATIENCE! I know, I cared for my exs stepmother for 23 years...she had to finally be put in a nursing home last September and she passed away on the 17th of November at age 70 from dementia. They certainly can get sullen, argumentative and very verbally abusive! God Bless you for helping take care of her!
Well, certainly glad to finally hear that Su is home and okay! Was beginning to worry!
Hope you have a very peaceful and productive week ahead! Thanks for visiting me! Hugs, Mat

It has to be very hard to do the work you do, dementia can be very cruel. Thank goodness for good hearted people like yourself who are able to control themselves and not lash out at her.

I'd love to ditch WalMart altogether, but with the RV life they are almost a necessary evil.

My Great Grandmother had a roommate when she was in the nursing home that got on tangents where she used the foulest language and the nastiest tone to everyone. One day when her son and Mom and I were visiting, he apologized and told us that he'd NEVER heard her speak that way until the dementia set in. We were lucky. Mums occasionally spoke an honest opinion, "She's a heavy girl" or "He is so short for a man." and a few minutes later would smile like she never made the criticism, but for the most part she reverted back to a southern-born lady entertaining guests when anyone visited. (Although I did hear that a couple of times she said to Grandma "If you're really my daughter then why are you leaving me here? Take me home this instant!" But I wasn’t there that time.) I get grumpy and use language I don’t ever use in public when I’m having an especially challenging day sometimes; I can only think not having control over your mind has got to be worse. I pray I never know. Still I know how hurtful people with dementia can be even in ways that are against their nature. But I also know how hard it is to work with them as a family member. It has to be much harder with someone to whom you’re not related; someone who doesn’t even subconsciously feel a connection to you.

On a lighter note, you need a “pig wand!” I have one and you wave it over your food before you eat it and it weeds out the calories. That would be great for the cookies for Santa! :)

Happy to hear Su is back home again.
It must not be easy to deal with the Mrs all the time, specially when she has her "moods". of course you can forgive her for some of it, but it is part of the dementia. Still hard to deal with it. I rememeber it from my grandmother of father's side, at the end of the stage she didn;t even recognized her children. It's an aweful disease, and I am just hoping they soon will find a medicine for it.

Hey, just take it easy on the housework things LOL. You also have to get rest to recover from the nightshifts.
So just do the utmost necessary and the rest can come in smaller portios, every now and then LOL!
Have a lovely day!
